Assignment 1 Task Four - Understand the techniques of music videos

The Foo Fighters - The Pretender.

What is an animatic - It is a preliminary version of a film, produced by shooting successive sections of a storyboard and adding a soundtrack. In general an animatic is animated storyboards. They are used for various purposes depending on the medium for which they are being produced. Animatics are used every day in the advertising industry to test commercials. They are used to previews scenes of live- action films before they are shot.

I made an animatic to the song The Pretender by The Foo Fighters; at every change of shot I had to draw down a different shot in my storyboard from 0.00 seconds - 0.45 seconds. At the end of the 45 seconds I had 28 shots in total. At the early stages of the video the shots were changing slowly but the shots changed a lot quicker as we progressed into the video. There were some repeated shots in the video but from a different angle or different shot.

The setting of the video is quite simple; there are a few speakers in the background, the drum set, the microphone stand and the guitars. The guys come in walk to there sections and get on with the song. The movement of the people in the video and the beat of the song are alike because at the beginning when there was not much of the song play just a beat of tune, the lead singer was moving but very slowly and to the song but when the song got faster they moved to the beat. The lightning was very bright and clear it made it look like they were in a white room with only instruments. The mic stand was at the middle because the audience need to focus on him the most, the drummer was at the far back and both guitarists are at the middle but side to side.

Their facial expressions were quite aggressive and tense, every time the lead singer held the microphone; he always had a tense look and constant movement of the head with rough medium length hair. The drummer's facial expressions were very similar to that of the lead singer, he had medium length hair and had a lot of head movement, which is his way of expressing the fact that he loves and is very into what he is doing. Both guitarists had average head movement but moved fast and felt like they were enjoying it.

Their dress code was simple however, the lead singer was the only one who had a different colour of top, the guitarists and the drummer were in all black, the purpose of this is to show he is the lead singer even without singing yet. The drummer and the lead singer had long hair both guitarists had a low cut.
